ABOUT THE TEACHER
My name is Miss Katie Boone!
In September, 2017 I moved back to the lowcountry and I'm so excited to be teaching Pre-K at Michael C. Riley! Keep reading to learn more about me, my education, and my teaching experiences. I've had quite the journey! I am originally from Lancaster, Ohio where I attended catholic schools from 1st grade all the way through high school. In grades one through eight I attended St. Mary School. At St. Mary's, I developed strong friendships, a love of art, and played softball and tennis. I graduated from William V. Fisher Catholic high school in 2007. At Fisher, I continued to develop my artistic skills and began to take tennis more seriously by traveling to tournaments and playing on the high school team. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Transylvania University in 2011. At Transy, I played singles and doubles on the tennis team all four years. I was also a member of the Tri Delta sorority, worked as the intramural director, and minored in studio art. I moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina after college and was offered a teaching position at Hilton Head Preparatory School. At HHP, I taught Kindergarten and Third Grade. After three years of teaching, I decided to pursue my graduate degree at Winthrop University. While at Winthrop, I was a full time student and worked as a graduate assistant at the pre-kindergarten school on campus. I earned my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction in December of 2015. I then returned to Hilton Head and was offered a pre-k teaching position at the Hilton Head Island Early Childhood Center. I worked at HHIECC for one year before deciding to move to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and start a new adventure in the Caribbean! Unfortunately, I was only living and teaching in St. Thomas for one month prior to Hurricanes Irma and Maria. During Hurricane Irma, my apartment ceiling collapsed on me and the apartment flooded. I was able to make it to a safer spot in an apartment on the floor below mine and left the island on a rescue cruise ship one week later. I miss my Junior Kindergarten friends at All Saints Cathedral School dearly, but I chose not to return due to safety and financial reasons. |
